German virologist Christian Drosten believes that the coronavirus pandemic will end in 2022. It is reported by Deutsche Welle.
According to the forecast of the virologist, Germany will return to normal life, which was before the pandemic, in 2022. At the same time, the virologist does not exclude a new outbreak of the epidemic next winter.
“Thanks to vaccination, most of the way to defeating the epidemic has been covered,” Drosten said.
According to him, population immunity "is developing in the right direction."
The virologist says that sooner or later all people will become infected with the coronavirus, but as a result of vaccination, patients will get sick in a milder form. "Vaccination is very important for Germany, because there are many elderly people living in the country," says the expert.
Drosten has high hopes for a live vaccine that will be injected up the nose. This spray will create immunity on the mucous membrane. The virologist calls this "a completely new phase of vaccination."
Drosten says the pandemic has had a positive impact as it has contributed to the development of medicine. This applies to the fight against coronavirus, as well as other infectious and oncological diseases.
