The Special Service for the Execution of Sentences publishes a statement about a story aired by one of the Georgian media and states that 3 convicts are starving in Colony No. 6.

According to the statement, two of them went on a hunger strike on August 14, that is, after the story aired on the air of one of the Georgian TV companies.

“We would like to respond to the misinformation spread by one of the media about the situation in penitentiary institution No. 6. In particular, the story indicated that about 10 convicts are starving in this penitentiary institution, who are not given proper attention by medical personnel. They also discussed various restrictions that allegedly illegally apply to the included.

The Special Service for the Execution of Sentences explains that 3 convicts are starving in Colony No. 6. Note that two of them went on a hunger strike on August 14, after the airing of the above-mentioned story.

With regard to medical care for convicts, doctors in all penitentiary institutions work around the clock and provide comprehensive medical services to any accused/convicted person at his request. Convict G. Ch., mentioned in the story, after being placed in penal colony No. 6, underwent complex treatment, repeatedly consulted with doctors of various profiles. August 11 and 12 this year he was examined by a family doctor and the convict had no complaints.

It should be noted that a disciplinary sanction is imposed on convicts in full accordance with the law, in accordance with the disciplinary offenses they have committed. For example, convict G. Ch. during his stay in colony No. 6 committed many disciplinary violations, in connection with which, in a number of cases, several disciplinary sanctions were imposed on him.

The Special Service for the Execution of Sentences calls on all media to refrain from disseminating non-specific information that primarily harms the interests of convicts and their families, misinforms the public, defames the image of the Special Service and serves to discredit employees of the department.
