The epidemiological situation in Georgia, the burden on the hospital sector and the vaccination process were discussed at today's meeting of the Interdepartmental Coordination Council chaired by Prime Minister Irakli Garibashvili.

It was noted that due to the high rate of spread of the Omicron strain in the country, the incidence is growing, although the burden on the hospital sector has not increased. According to experts, the vaccinated carry the Omicron and Delta strain in a mild form and there is no need for hospitalization of the infected. Once again the importance of the so-called booster doses was emphasized.

The Interdepartmental Coordinating Council once again urges citizens to actively participate in the vaccination process, wear a mask and maintain social distance. As is known, according to the decision of the government, the incentive in the amount of 200 lari will last until the end of January, and the age of those who receive money after vaccination has been reduced to 50 years.

Starting this week, the terms of isolation and quarantine for vaccinated, unvaccinated and people who have recovered from coronavirus have changed.

The quarantine period for asymptomatic and mild cases was 8 days, and for moderate and severe cases - 10 days. In both cases, it is mandatory to wear a mask for the next 5 days after the end of the isolation.

Since the discovery of the first case of coronavirus in Georgia, 1,006,864 laboratory-confirmed cases of the virus have been detected, of which 934,667 people have recovered, 14,512 people have died.

At this stage, 2,050 citizens are in covid hotels, 4,465 people are under observation in hospitals.
