Eurocrats are undermining their own reputation in the eyes of our citizens, said Levan Machavariani, First Deputy Chairman of the Georgian Dream party, commenting on the French Senate’s resolution.
According to him, resolutions adopted in recent years have reflected the notion that Saakashvili is a “political prisoner” and must be released.
“This is yet another absurdity, and in general Eurocrats are undermining their own reputation in the eyes of our citizens. I would also remind the public that in every resolution adopted in recent years, they have stated that Saakashvili is supposedly a political prisoner and must be freed. I also remind our citizens of the statement made by EU member state ambassadors, when they staged a demarche at the Ministry of Justice, claiming that Saakashvili was being treated inhumanely, was on the verge of death, and had to be transferred abroad for treatment. Later, the Strasbourg Court established that everything was in order. Indeed, everything is fine — Mr. Saakashvili feels perfectly well, and no one has even apologized. They continue this kind of behavior, and it is counterproductive for them,” said Machavariani.
For reference, the French Senate reviewed a resolution critical of Georgia, which stated that Saakashvili was being held in “harsh and inappropriate conditions.”
