Seventeen people have died in the crash of the “Gloria” funicular in Lisbon on Wednesday, Associated Press reports.
The names and nationalities of the victims have not been disclosed. All of the deceased were adults. Twenty-one others were injured.
Earlier reports put the death toll at 15.
On Wednesday, the “Gloria” funicular derailed, rolled down the slope, and crashed at high speed into a building.
All funicular services in Lisbon have been suspended for inspection.
The “Gloria” funicular has been operating since 1885 and is one of the city’s tourist attractions.
