The remark by Molenbeek district deputy Saliha Raissi, that if someone doesn’t like the clothing of Muslim women they should leave Belgium, stirred heated debate, rtl.be reports.
"If you are so disturbed by women dressed in Muslim clothing, if this happens in Molenbeek, then you should get out of the country," Raissi said at a meeting of the Molenbeek municipal council.
Along with Belgians, the statement of the Muslim deputy was also commented on by American billionaire, head of SpaceX and former adviser to Donald Trump, Elon Musk: "Belgians should leave Belgium? That’s madness!"
Saliha Raissi herself says that her statement was addressed to those deputies who had taken an openly racist stance, as their remarks clearly indicated.
