American rapper Sean Combs, known by his stage names P. Diddy, Puff Daddy, and Diddy, has been sentenced to four years and two months in prison on charges related to involvement in prostitution. The verdict was delivered on Friday, October 3, in New York by Judge Arun Subramanian.

He also imposed the maximum possible fine of half a million dollars, according to the dpa agency. P. Diddy has already served about a year in pretrial detention—meaning he could be released in about three years, AP reported.

Prosecutors had sought a sentence of more than 11 years for the rapper. His lawyers argued for immediate release, claiming that the time he had already spent behind bars had led him to repent.

On July 2, a Manhattan federal court jury acquitted the 55-year-old performer and producer of charges of creating a criminal organization and human trafficking for purposes of sexual exploitation.

However, P. Diddy was found guilty on lesser charges. Twelve jurors concluded that he coerced his former girlfriend Cassandra Ventura and another victim into prostitution and illegally transported them.
