The U.S. administration is preparing a statement on a possible link between paracetamol (Tylenol) and autism, The Washington Post reports.
It concerns findings that taking paracetamol in the early stages of pregnancy increases the risk of autism in the fetus. The conclusions are based on studies conducted by Harvard University and Mount Sinai Hospital.
The U.S. Department of Health is preparing recommendations suggesting that women refrain from taking paracetamol (Tylenol) during the first trimester of pregnancy.
In addition, U.S. authorities plan to promote the drug leucovorin, which is being considered as a potential treatment for autism. Leucovorin is usually prescribed to counteract side effects of certain medications and to treat vitamin B9 deficiency.
