Georgian Railway is launching regular container block trains four times a week on the Poti–Tbilisi–Poti route.
The block trains will operate according to a predetermined schedule — departing from Poti at 21:30 and arriving in Tbilisi at 09:47.
As a result, shippers will be able to transport containers from the port to Tbilisi in the shortest possible time, regardless of the block train’s load level. Shippers will be informed in advance of the container’s dispatch and terminal delivery times.
“This service is fundamentally important for users of Georgian Railway, as maritime lines set specific deadlines by which containers must be returned,” the company stated.
The new service promotes the shift of container transport between Poti and Tbilisi — including empty return trips — from road to rail. This will significantly reduce the load on highways and minimize environmental damage.
The first block train arrived today at the “Tbilisi Dry Port.” It was received on-site by the General Director of Georgian Railway, the Head of Freight Transportation, the founder of the Dry Port, and the Director of MSC Georgia.
According to the Georgian Railway, the parties emphasized that this is a simplified logistics service for cargo owners, who will now be able to receive containers in Tbilisi and Poti without delays and strictly within the established timeframes.
