Investigative Service of the Ministry of Finance Detains Oni Municipality Mayor’s Representative for Taking a Bribe

Employees of the Investigative Service of the Ministry of Finance of Georgia, as a result of operational-search measures and investigative actions carried out in coordination with the district prosecutor’s offices of Shida Kartli and Mtskheta-Mtianeti, detained the representative of the mayor of Oni municipality in the administrative unit of Shkmeri — Z.J., on charges of taking a bribe. This was announced at a briefing in the Investigative Service.
“The investigation established that the accused, while exercising his official powers, for the purpose of personal material gain and benefit, demanded and received from a citizen a bribe of 1,800 GEL in exchange for permitting the extraction of peat — a natural resource — in his area of responsibility. He was detained at the moment of receiving the money.
The investigation is being conducted under Part 1 of Article 338 of the Criminal Code of Georgia, which provides for imprisonment from six to nine years.
The Investigative Service of the Ministry of Finance of Georgia will continue to pursue a strict criminal policy against crimes committed in the financial and economic sphere,” the agency stated.
