Employees of the Investigative Service of the Ministry of Finance of Georgia, as a result of operational-search measures and investigative actions carried out in coordination with the district prosecutor’s offices of Shida Kartli and Mtskheta-Mtianeti, detained the representative of the mayor of Oni municipality in the administrative unit of Shkmeri — Z.J., on charges of taking a bribe. This was announced at a briefing in the Investigative Service.
“The investigation established that the accused, while exercising his official powers, for the purpose of personal material gain and benefit, demanded and received from a citizen a bribe of 1,800 GEL in exchange for permitting the extraction of peat — a natural resource — in his area of responsibility. He was detained at the moment of receiving the money.
The investigation is being conducted under Part 1 of Article 338 of the Criminal Code of Georgia, which provides for imprisonment from six to nine years.
