Officers of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Georgia, as a result of operational measures and investigative actions carried out in Tbilisi and the regions over the past three days, detained 37 individuals on charges of illegal acquisition, possession, and carrying of firearms and ammunition, the ministry reported.
According to the agency, during complex investigative actions conducted on the basis of a court order, police seized dozens of firearms of various types and ammunition as evidence during searches of the detainees’ personal belongings, residences, auxiliary premises, and vehicles.
The Ministry of Internal Affairs stated that the investigation is being conducted under parts 3 and 4 of Article 236 of the Criminal Code of Georgia. These crimes are punishable by up to seven years in prison.
“In order to ensure the protection of public order and safety, officers of the Ministry of Internal Affairs carry out relevant police measures around the clock throughout the country,” the ministry said.
