The Prosecutor’s Office of Georgia has charged a citizen of the Russian Federation with offering a bribe to a Georgian border guard, the office reported.
“The investigation conducted by the Investigation Department of the Shida Kartli and Mtskheta-Mtianeti District Prosecutor’s Office established that the accused — a citizen of the Russian Federation — offered a border control officer a bribe of 100 U.S. dollars at the Dariali border checkpoint in Georgia in exchange for crossing the border by car without the required documents.
As a result of the investigative actions, the accused was detained on the spot.
He has been charged under Part 2 of Article 339 of the Criminal Code of Georgia (bribery for the purpose of committing an unlawful act), which provides for a sentence of four to seven years of imprisonment.
Within the time frame established by law, the Prosecutor’s Office will petition the court to impose pre-trial detention as a measure of restraint against the accused,” the statement reads.
