The Transfiguration is one of the 12 great feasts and is connected to one of the well-known episodes of the earthly life of Jesus Christ.

According to the Gospel, on this day the Lord was transfigured on Mount Tabor before three of His apostles — Peter, James, and John: His face shone, and His garments became radiant. At that moment, Moses and the Prophet Elijah appeared beside the Savior in heavenly glory, speaking with Him about the sufferings and torments that awaited Him in Jerusalem.

Every year on Mount Tabor, a visible miracle still occurs — the mountain is covered with a cloud. In connection with the feast, a Divine Liturgy is celebrated in the Orthodox churches of Georgia. The Transfiguration falls during the strict Dormition Fast; however, for those fasting, this day is permitted for the consumption of fish.
