Conscripts called up for eight months of mandatory military service took the military oath near the fortress in Gori. After taking the oath, the new recruits recited the soldier’s code of honor. The ceremonial event was attended by representatives of the Defense Forces’ command and local authorities, according to the Ministry of Defense of Georgia.

According to the agency, the commander of the First Infantry Brigade, Colonel Zaza Shalamberidze, addressed the conscripts with a speech and congratulated them on successfully completing the Basic Combat Training (BCT) course. The recruits were blessed by Chaplain Thaddeus.

“Family members and loved ones of the conscripts attended the event. After the ceremony, one of the soldiers proposed to his beloved.

The recruits completed a two-month Basic Combat Training course at the First Infantry Brigade base in Gori, following an updated program. Under the new conscription system, soldiers called to military service will benefit from an improved mandatory social package and regular days off. All of them are serving in the First Infantry Brigade in Gori,” the statement said.
