Renowned Georgian musician Mamuka Charkviani has died at the age of 69. Charkviani had been actively performing since 1995, with a significant part of his repertoire consisting of songs set to the poetry of his father, the famous Georgian poet Jansug Charkviani.
The singer released several albums and received numerous awards: in 1996, at the Liga festival, he won first prize in the category “Georgian National Song” for his composition Green Branches; in 1999, he received the award for “Best Song of the 20th Century” for Up and Up.
Later, he was awarded the Golden Disc for Best Songs of the Year (You Are No Longer Mine, Spring, April, and Mother’s Time).
On May 10, 2014, a star dedicated to Mamuka Charkviani was unveiled in front of the Grand Concert Hall of the Tbilisi Philharmonic.
