Officers of Georgia’s Ministry of Internal Affairs, as a result of two police operations carried out yesterday in Tbilisi, seized particularly large quantities of various narcotic substances, including about 12,000 Ecstasy pills and 520 Subutex pills.
As stated at a briefing by the Director of the Tbilisi Police Department, Vazha Siradze, two individuals were detained.
“Officers of the Central Criminal Police Department and the Tbilisi Police Department, as a result of operational and investigative actions conducted in different locations, detained on drug-related charges a previously repeatedly convicted individual, J.G., born in 1959, and a citizen of the Republic of Latvia, E.K., born in 1979.
During searches of the detainees, their car, and their temporary residence, law enforcement officers seized as evidence particularly large quantities of narcotic substances — including about 12,000 Ecstasy pills, 520 Subutex pills, cocaine, MDMA, and marijuana.
In the course of investigative actions, police also seized materials used for packaging narcotics, electronic scales, adhesive tape, and, presumably, a large sum of money obtained from the illegal sale of drugs.
The investigation is underway under Article 260 of the Criminal Code of Georgia.
If convicted, the crime carries a sentence of up to 20 years in prison or life imprisonment.
The Ministry of Internal Affairs continues its uncompromising fight against the illegal circulation and distribution of narcotics. In this regard, law enforcement officers across the country are constantly carrying out comprehensive measures,” Vazha Siradze stated.
