German Chancellor Olaf Scholz, in an interview with ZDF, in which he spoke about the ongoing conflict between Russia and Ukraine, said that not accepting Ukraine and Georgia into NATO was the right decision. He said that this issue was not and is not on the agenda.
Scholz was referring to the Brussels summit in June 2021, when NATO supported the right of Ukraine and Georgia to join, but did not set a specific time frame for them.
Scholz also said that the accession of Georgia, Moldova and Ukraine to the European Union is not a topic that should be considered now, until there is a de-escalation of the situation in Ukraine.
